Welcome to Erin Goes Everywhere!
I’m Erin Lanahan, a writer with a passion for traveling, hiking, getting outside, and storytelling. I’m from northern New Jersey, raised on Bruce Springsteen and good bagels. My family introduced me to the Adirondacks when I was young, taking annual trips upstate and falling in love with the amazing opportunities the great outdoors provides.
Erin Goes Everywhere was born in 2017, when I studied abroad in Ireland. I lived in Maynooth, spending the fall semester of my sophomore year of college studying at the National University of Ireland Maynooth. I explored the different corners of the Emerald Isle, sharing my stories about all the new places I visited each week on this blog. I made great friends and have wonderful memories from my time in Ireland.

I graduated from St. Bonaventure University in 2020. I learned so much about the Western New York region during my time in school and walked away with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communications and lifelong friends. Fun fact: I was both an anchor/reporter for SBU-TV, the campus news station, as well as the executive producer. One of my favorite parts of studying at St. Bonaventure was getting to host my own weekly radio show on 88.3 WSBU, The Buzz, playing classic rock and rambling about whatever I wanted on Sunday mornings.

My time at the campus news station brought me to my first job as a Multimedia News Producer at 13WHAM ABC in Rochester, NY. This was when I first fell back in love with getting outside. I started exploring local trails and parks to relieve stress after work and disconnect from the craziness that is local news. I discovered the Adirondack Fire Tower Challenge and made it a goal of mine to one day complete all 23(ish) hikes. I started traveling more, taking long weekends to not only visit the Adirondacks, but also to visit friends who moved to different states. Eventually, I made my way back to Ireland to reconnect with the place that helped me bring my words to life.

As much as I loved being a news producer, I eventually pivoted to a career in marketing, like so many other former journalists these days. I said goodbye to Rochester and moved to Jersey City, NJ. Reconnecting with my Jersey roots, I am once again in the land of beaches, mountains, and Springsteen.
Even though I’ve returned to my home state, I’m still traveling. My friends love to joke, “Erin Goes Everywhere…in New York!” It seems to be the current trend: I love to share my adventures in the Adirondacks, recommendations for weekends in the Catskills, places to check out in Rochester, and things you can’t miss in New York City. Still, I love to explore new places outside of New Jersey and New York, and I have many new places on my list I still want to see.

When I first started planning trips, I organized my itineraries down to the minute so I wouldn’t waste any of my PTO or precious days off on being unprepared. Now I want to share these weekend guides with you, my loyal readers, so you can travel with confidence and knowledge. I want you to enjoy your trips with family and friends (or the occasional solo trip) as much as I do.
